Healthy Vegetarian Sandwich @ Mut | Modern Brunch Cafe in Amore Pacific Yongsan

If you are looking for the best sandwich shop near Yongsan Station, you must try Mut, a small sandwich cafe located inside the Amore Pacific building. Mut is actually my personal go-to spot in Yongsan: I’ve visited Mut at least five times already, which probably says a lot about how reliable this recommendation is🥖🥨🥪😋

For those who may not be familiar, Amore Pacific is the biggest Korean cosmetics brand, managing various labels like Sulwhasoo, Laneige, Etude and many more. Amore’s HQ building in Yongsan is known not only for its beautiful architecture but also for the curated selection of restaurants and shops on the basement floor. I recently stopped by the Amore building with my mom and once again had a perfect brunch at Mut.

뭍(mut) in Korean means “land” or “mainland,” a name that shows the brand’s philosophy to provide comforting & homely experience to its visitors. Mut’s story begins from a small sandwich shop in Ilsan, a satellite city about an hour away from Seoul. After spending about 2 years in a quiet street in Ilsan, Mut moved its store to Yongsan in 2023.

Mut introduces itself as a brunch cafe focused on carefully prepared slow food. The bread used for its sandwiches is made in-house every morning using naturally fermented sourdough. Most of the sauces and spreads (including basil pesto, shallot pickles, hummus, aioli, tzatziki, and spinach dip) that appear across the menu are also house-made,

Rather than focusing on meat or sauce-heavy sandwiches, Mut’s concept centers on balance and seasonality. Their sandwiches highlight healthy combinations like grilled vegetables, hummus, cheese, and herbs, making them appealing for both cafe hoppers on weekends and nearby office workers on weekdays.

Although sandwiches are clearly the main focus at Mut, their menu also includes a few side dishes such as pasta, stew, salads, and soup. Most sandwiches are priced in the ₩10,000 to ₩15,000 range, and you can also add ₩5,000 to make it a combo which comes with the soup of the day. For drinks they offer coffee and tea starting from ₩4,000. FYI there is no decaf option available.

Hummus Veggie Sandwich (+ Avocado)

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I ordered the grilled vegetable and hummus sandwich, which features hummus, grilled vegetables, Havarti cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, and truffle oil (+ I also added avocado as an extra topping🥑) The sandwich is generously filled with vegetables like bell peppers, eggplant, broccoli, and mushrooms that have been roasted until slightly caramelized, bringing out their natural sweetness.

The aroma of the truffle oil kicks in from the first bite, adding a smoky, fragrant note. The flavors of the vegetables slowly start to come through more clearly, along with a subtle peppery seasoning and the nutty flavor from the hummus. I especially liked the contrast created by adding avocado. The grilled vegetables are warm and slightly smoky, while the avocado adds a cool, creamy freshness that balances the sandwich nicely. The house-made ciabatta also deserves a mention: it has a soft, airy texture with a light chew that holds the fillings well.

Even without any meat, the combination felt surprisingly filling and satisfying. If you’re ordering the hummus veggie sandwich, I would definitely recommend adding the avocado.

Basil & Casarecce Cold Pasta

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

I paired my sandwich with the basil casarecce cold pasta, which is essentially a chilled basil pesto pasta. The short twisted shape of casarecce adds a uniquely chewy texture and because the pasta is served cold the texture becomes even more noticeable.

The first flavor that stands out is the freshness of the basil. The pesto has a very herbal aroma, and the addition of rosemary gives it an even brighter woody character.

On top, the pasta is finished with a generous amount of grated cheese and crispy bacon chips, that add a savory depth to the dish. These toppings bring the right amount of richness that balances the fresh herb notes of the pesto. There are also cherry tomatoes that provide small bursts of sweetness and a juicy texture every few bites.

The pasta could easily pair with almost any sandwich on the menu. The portion size was also quite generous so if you are visiting with two or more people, it would be a great option to order as a sharing side. I also think this cold pasta would work especially well during the summer, probably better than the soup combo.

Vibe & Atmosphere

Located on the basement level of Amore Pacific building, Mut is a small and compact shop. The space inside is quite intimate with tables placed fairly close together, so it’s not the kind of cafe where you would linger for hours or have private conversations. But it doesn’t feel cramped or uncomfortable thanks to the high ceilings and the large glass windows. The seating area also extends beyond the storefront with additional tables placed in the open corridor outside. FYI when I visited around noon on a weekend, I was able to get a table right away without any waiting.

The overall interior style is simple and modern, with a white & gray color palette that reflects the design theme of the Amore Pacific building. The furniture has a subtle mid-century modern influence, which add a bit of color to the minimal aesthetic and gives the space a casual, contemporary atmosphere.

4.3/5

Overall

There are hundreds of sandwich cafes in Seoul but Mut’s recipes are definitely unique in its veggie-forward ingredients and healthy flavors. From the freshly baked sourdough bread to the house-made sauces, there is a noticeable difference in its attention to details. The location inside the Amore building also adds to the experience. With its clean, modern interior and convenient setting, Mut works well as a casual brunch spot for both visitors and nearby office workers.
