Incheon Airport Terminal 1 Review | Breakfast at Matina Lounge & Where to Pick Up Online Duty Free Shopping Orders

As the finale of my Singapore trip series, I’ll be reviewing the Incheon Airport Matina Lounge and share some tips on online duty free shopping. Before boarding my flight, I spent my last morning at Incheon International Airport Terminal 1 by picking up my pre-ordered duty free items and relaxing over breakfast at the lounge. I’ll walk you through the full experience from how to order and collect duty free shopping online, to what you can expect inside the lounge. And if you’re curious about the very first step of the journey, don’t miss my earlier post on how to take the airport limousine!

One of my favorite travel routines is buying cosmetics online through Incheon Airport’s duty-free partners like Shilla, Lotte, Hyundai or Shinsegae. One big advantage of buying your cosmetics online in advance is that you often find larger discounts compared to in-store purchases, especially on items nearing expiration.

How to Shop Duty Free Online

The process of using online duty free shopping is surprisingly straightforward. You simply go onto one of the major retailers (such as Shilla, Lotte, or Shinsegae), log in with your account, and browse for items just as you would on a normal e-commerce site. After adding items to your cart, you pay online and register your passport and flight details, which are essential to confirm that you’ll actually be leaving the country.

Before you check out, I highly recommend comparing the different duty free sites because they often have slightly different discount rates on the same product. It’s also a good idea to download all available coupons, since these can stack on top of the regular sale price and save you even more.

Duty Free Pick-up at Incheon Airport

A day before your flight, you’ll usually receive a confirmation message through text or KakaoTalk that includes your pick-up details, such as the location and hours of operation. At Incheon Airport Terminal 1, the main pick-up area is on the 4th floor, either opposite Gates 43 or Gate 11.

When you arrive at the pick-up zone, you’ll find kiosks where you can scan your passport and get a waiting number. Make sure you use the correct kiosk for the duty free site you purchased from, since each retailer (ie. Shilla, Lotte, Shinsegae) has its own counter. Once your number is called, you proceed to the counter, show your passport and boarding pass, and then check that the items and quantities match your order.

One important thing to remember is that the name and passport number on your booking must exactly match your travel documents, otherwise you won’t be able to collect your purchase. It’s also best to pick up your order at least half an hour before boarding, since you cannot collect anything once you board the flight. Following these steps makes the process smooth and efficient, saving you from the stress of last-minute shopping while also letting you take advantage of the better online discounts.

Lounges Available at Incheon Airport Terminal 1

Having collected my duty-free purchases, I headed to the lounge to enjoy some calm before departure. Since I had access with my Priority Pass card (PP), I chose the Matina Lounge but there are several other lounge options in Terminal 1, each with its own character: Matina is more known for its generous food offerings while Sky Hub is usually calmer with less people. You should refer to the website for the most up-to-date details.

My Visit to Matina Lounge

There are two Matina Lounges at Incheon Airport Terminal 1 : the East (near Gate 11) or West (near Gate 43) location. Unless you have a Priority Pass (PP) card with access to this lounge, day-pass entry is available onsite at USD 45 for up to three hours of stay. When I arrived at around 7:30 AM on a Saturday, there was already a queue and I waited about 15 minutes to get a table. When I went inside the lounge was quite crowded with travelers grabbing breakfast before their flights. The food was actually much better than what I’d expected. The spread included:

  • Salad bar
  • Bibimbap station (where you can make your own DIY bibimbap)
  • Hot meals (with fried chicken, roasted vegetables, bulgogi, scrambled eggs, etc)
  • Fresh fruits, desserts
  • Bread bar (with toasts, jams, pastries)
  • Cereals and cup noodles (with hot water and milk)
  • Drinks (with coffee, juices, and wine)
