Friends & Yard is less than 300m (a 5-minute walk) from Exit 3 of Seongsu Station. It’s nestled in a corner slightly away from the busiest sections of Seongsu Café Street, an area widely known for its trendy cafes, artisan bakeries and stylish brunch spots. Often referred to as the Brooklyn of Seoul,” Seongsu is home to a unique mix of industrial-chic and cozy vibes, making it a perfect destination for a weekend brunch.

Friends & Yard takes pride in its homemade brunch cafeteria concept, offering a curated selection of dishes that feel rustic and homely. Their hearty dishes combine classic European-inspired flavors with fresh, seasonal ingredients. The price range for the main dishes span from ₩18,000 to ₩24,000 which feels reasonable given the quality of ingredients and the portion sizes.

Burrata Green Bean Tartine

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

This tartine came as a golden brown, crispy toast generously topped with peas, burrata cheese, garlic, and chorizo. The combination of ingredients was bold and flavorful, with the creaminess of the burrata balancing the saltiness of the chorizo.

But it was greasier and more savory than I’d expected, likely due to the combination of chorizo and burrata. While still enjoyable, I personally preferred the Fig Tartine I had during my visit last October, which had a better balance of the sweet figs and the creamy burrata cheese. I was slightly disappointed that it wasn’t available during winter, but it makes sense given the cafe’s emphasis on seasonal ingredients.

Creamy Basil Pesto Gnocchi (Must-Try!)

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

This is arguably the signature dish at Friends & Yard, and for a good reason. The handmade gnocchi had a soft and chewy texture which paired perfectly with the thick, creamy basil pesto sauce.

The addition of pistachio and burrata cheese elevated the dish, bringing nutty and rich undertones that complemented the herby freshness of the pesto. It was well-balanced in terms of seasoning, and the portion was generous enough to be satisfying without feeling overwhelming.

Classic Lasagna

Rating: 4 out of 5.

As the name suggests, this dish leaned towards a traditional, home-cooked style rather than something experimental. The layers of pasta, rich tomato sauce, and béchamel were well-balanced. While it didn’t stand out as something particularly unique it was definitely comforting and satisfying so if you’re looking for a classic hearty dish, this would be a great choice.

Vibe & Atmosphere

Friends & Yard has a warm and inviting vibe, making it feel like a blend of a European café and a modern brunch spot. The indoor space is spacious with high ceilings and large windows, allowing for plenty of natural light. The interior leans towards a minimalistic yet cozy style, featuring wooden tables, neutral tones, and subtle rustic elements. It’s a comfortable space to enjoy a slow brunch, whether you’re alone with a book or catching up with friends.

One of the highlights of Friends & Yard is its outdoor terrace, which offers a relaxed, open-air dining experience. But the terrace is enclosed to block the cold during the winter, which somewhat limits the full experience. If you want to enjoy the outdoor seating, I’d recommend visiting in spring or autumn when the weather is milder.
