For my third post in the Tokyo trip series, I’ll be covering my shopping trip to Gotemba Premium Outlets, often mentioned as the best outlet near Tokyo. This was my first time ever visiting an outlet in Japan, so I had high expectations especially for brands we don’t have in Korean outlets like Celine. If you’re visiting Tokyo and want a shopping day outside the city, this review will help you plan from how to go to Gotemba Premium Outlet from Tokyo, where to shop, and what to eat at the Gotemba Premium Outlet food court.

Perfect Day Trip Spot Near Tokyo
Gotemba city is located in Shizuoka Prefecture, around 1.5–2 hours from central Tokyo depending on your departure point. The area is especially well known for its iconic views of Mount Fuji and the surrounding lakes and hot springs. And with its proximity to Hakone, many tourists plan full-day or even two-day itineraries combining Gotemba Premium Outlet + Mt. Fuji + Hakone onsens. The outlet website even introduces day tours where you shop and head to nearby hot springs or sightseeing areas. (I didn’t sign up for any tours this time to focus on shopping, but if you’re spending more time in Shizuoka, it sounds like a great addition.)
How to go to Gotemba Premium Outlet from Tokyo
There are a two main ways to reach Gotemba from Tokyo:
- Direct Highway Bus :
Central Tokyo Area (ie. Shinjuku, Tokyo, Shibuya) → Gotemba Premium Outlets
(Most convenient, usually takes ~2hr depending on traffic) - Train + Shuttle Bus :
Take a train to JR Gotemba Station → Free shuttle bus to the outlet
(Shuttle runs every 15 minutes)
Bus from Shinjuku to Gotemba Premium Outlet
I decided to take the direct bus from Shinjuku station, operated by two main companies: Odakyu Highway Bus and JR Bus. I chose JR Bus because the travel time was slightly shorter and the timetable suited us better. But the difference between the two is minor so I recommend choosing based on your preferred time.

I booked our round-trip tickets online through the official booking site:
- On the booking page, I selected Tokyo / Shizuoka as the From and To areas, then chose the Route as Gotemba Premium Outlets.
- For the bus stops, I set Shinjuku Expressway Bus Terminal as the departure point and Gotemba Premium Outlet as the destination, followed by the boarding date (2025/12/22).
- I selected our preferred departure and return times, and booked the Hayauri (early bird) discount option. You can also select your seat during the booking process.
- Once the payment was confirmed, a QR code with all the ticket and seating details was sent to my email.
- On the travel day we arrived at Shinjuku Express Bus Terminal (full review here), showed the QR code to the staff, and boarded the bus (no paper tickets needed).

My bus schedule was:
🚌 Shinjuku → Gotemba Premium Outlets (8:55am)
🚐 Gotemba Premium Outlets → Shinjuku (16:00pm)
This gave us 5.5 hours, which was enough because we only planned to shop, but if you want to add nearby sightseeing you might want to stay longer.
Bus from Gotemba Premium Outlet to Shinjuku
When returning, we boarded at the same area where we arrived (Bus Stop 5A in West Zone). The return bus was scheduled to arrive back in Shinjuku at 17:40, but due to traffic we arrived around 18:20. That said if you have dinner reservations in Tokyo after your trip, it’d be safe to allow a 40-50min buffer.

Layout, Zones & Brands at Gotemba Outlet
There are 3 main zones in Gotemba outlet:
- West Zone: with luxury & premium designer brands like Gucci, Prada, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Gucci, and Celine.
- East Zone: with sports & casual fashion brands like Nike, Adidas, Polo Ralph Lauren, and L.L. Bean
- Hill Side: with trendy & contemporary brands like Beams, Lululemon, Barbour, A.P.C, and Thom Browne
Where I Shopped at Gotemba Outlet
1. Celine
This brand was my top mission. Prices were definitely lower than retail, with many bags marked 20–30% down and sometimes more depending on model and season. I would say selection leaned more toward chain bags and seasonal materials (furry, wicker). Classic Triomphe canvas or chestnut/black calf skin designs were limited, but they did have a Triomphe canvas tote for 188,000yen. I seriously considered buying it but in the end decided to pass.

2. Gucci
There was a good selection of bags, shoes, scarves, clothing, and small leather goods. Horsebit bags were priced around 294,000-316,000 yen depending on model year. Discounts were noticeably better for 2024 season pieces. Still, I left empty-handed because nothing felt like a must buy.

3. Bottega Veneta, Max Mara, Polo Ralph Lauren
Both prices and designs at Bottega didn’t feel impressive enough to keep us browsing long. Max Mara unfortunately had no classic coats with mostly seasonal or less structured designs. Polo Ralph Lauren was not much cheaper compared to Korean outlets.

4. Coach & Tory Burch
We stopped by Coach and Tory Burch toward the very end of our visit when we were already watching the time for the return bus, so we couldn’t spend a lot of time. Even so both stores had a wide selection of great items. At Coach, I was particularly impressed by the shoes section. There was a good mix of practical everyday flats and loafers, and the prices felt very reasonable for the quality.

My mom was quite impressed by the bag selection of Tory Burch. They had a wide range of styles from classic structured totes to more casual crossbody bags. It felt like a great store for finding something daily rather than seasonal, and the discounts made them feel like true outlet finds.
What I Bought from Gotemba Outlet
All stores I bought from were tax-free, so I simply showed my passport at checkout, with no need to claim tax refund separately.
1. Lululemon Utilitech Relaxed Fit Midrise Trouser (¥10,400)

This was my first purchase of the day. I’ve heard many people say that Lululemon prices in Gotemba outlet are cheaper than in Korea, and it was true. The store also had a large selection of Asian Fit items, which was ideal for me. The trouser I bought has a clean silhouette that works perfectly as daily office wear.

2. Vivienne Westwood Shirt (¥13,200)
I got this Vivienne Westwood men’s shirt in size S, which had a nice slightly oversized silhouette without being too boxy. I really liked the check pattern on the collar, button placket and cuffs. I also tried their shirt and cardigan from the woman’s section, but the fit and design didn’t feel as special on me, so I only bought this shirt.

3. Kate Spade Bonded Shearling Jacket (¥27,300)

The Kate Spade store had a great selection of clothing, bags, shoes, accessories and the special Peanuts X KSNY Snoopy collection, all with a huge discount range. The bonded shearling jacket we got had 60% off + an extra 20%, making it a great deal for the quality. The lightweight faux shearling has a cozy winter look, almost like a more casual take on Max Mara’s iconic Teddy coat.

4. Francfranc Rabbit Rice Spoons (~¥2,500 for 4)
I also picked up these adorable Francfranc rabbit rice spoons, a signature item from the brand. There were only blue ones left, so I got four in the same color as souvenirs for friends. I lost the receipt so I don’t remember the exact price, but it was around the 2,500 yen for 4 spoons.

Gotemba Premium Outlet Food Court
Gotemba outlet has 2 main food courts: Food Bazaar in the East Zone and Itadaki Terrace in Hill Side, and we chose Itadaki Terrace. The dining area has spacious seating with panoramic mountain views. Apparently you can see Mount Fuji on a clear day, but I was there on a rainy/foggy day so I couldn’t see anything.

As of December 2025, stores at Itadaki Terrace were:
- Fujichi (Chinese-style ramen/noodles)
- Fujiyama Saryou (udon)
- Gotouchi Gourmet Express (local Shizuoka dishes)
- Wood-Burning Steak
- Kaneko Hannosuke (tendon or tempura donburi)
- San Grams Green Tea (matcha-themed desserts)
What I Ordered at Itadaki Terrace
Hot Udon with Sauce Broth (¥880)

My mom ordered the Udon with Soy Sauce Broth from Fujiyama Saryou, which had a bright orange raw egg yolk, chopped spring onions, tempura flakes (tenkasu) topped on udon noodles. We initially expected a regular udon with a full broth, but it turned out to be a warm bukkake-style udon, where you mix everything together with the sauce. Once mixed, the yolk and soy sauce coated the chewy noodles, creating a comforting sweet & savory flavor.
Roast Beef Donburi (¥1,380)

I ordered the Roast Beef Donburi, a popular Japanese menu with slices of pink roast beef layered over warm rice. The beef was tender but still with the right amount of chewiness. What really stood out was the sweet mayo sauce drizzled on top, which had a mild sweetness that paired really well with the warm rice and meat. I got a la carte donburi instead of the set (which I think comes with miso soup and a small salad), and the portion size felt just right for a light lunch.
Overall
Our one-day trip to Gotemba Premium Outlets turned out to be a well-balanced mix of shopping and a refreshing break from the city. From the convenience of taking the direct bus from Shinjuku to Gotemba Premium Outlet, to browsing designer brands, and finding great deals at places like Lululemon and Kate Spade, the experience felt smooth and worthwhile. If you’re looking for the best outlet near Tokyo for a focused shopping day, Gotemba is definitely worth considering.
